******ANTIQUE ORIGINAL M1822/1845 FRENCH HEAVY CAVALRY SWORD & SCABBARD******

Description

Up for bids is this antique original Model 1822/1845 French Heavy Cavalry  sword with its iron scabbard.  The U.S. M1840 Cavalry sword was a nearly identical copy of this sword.  This sword appears to have never been apart and it has not been cleaned in a long time.
Length & width of blade
.....36" long,  1-1/4" wide at ricasso,  single edged blade with one large groove under a small groove on each side.
Overall length
...................41-1/2"
Condition of blade
............Blade is graying with scattered speckling.  No cracks, repairs or active rust.  There is a bend in the blade and small nicks in the edge.  Blade is arsenal marked on the ricasso and spine and it has the number "52" stamped on the handguard.
Condition of hilt
...............Guard and pommel are cast brass.  Guard and grip exhibit some looseness to the blade.  Leather grip wrap is 100% present as is the twisted grip wire.
Scabbard
........................... made of iron with a lapped seam.  It appears to originally have had a blued finish that is now mostly browned out.  Scabbard has one shallow dent.  Scabbard is an excellent fit to the blade.
This is a good example of this make and model.
