NAVAL OFFICER'S SABER 1837 with scabbard
Beautiful patinated bronze frame. The long tail is adorned with a row of 13 scallops in the center and a water leaf decoration near the pommel. The crown is decorated with hollow melon ribs. The main guard branch is connected to the pommel by a shell. It is adorned with a decoration of coiled cord and floral motifs near the top. The space between the secondary branch and the top is decorated with a decoration of water leaves pierced to open with an anchor spread out in the center. The quillon ends with a sea monster head. The handle is in fluted horn without filigree as required by the model. Slightly curved blade of 68 cm with a hollow side and an upper gutter on both sides. at the heel of the blade has punches surmounted by a star. (see photos) The back is marked "Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal" The tip ends in a carp tongue. The scabbard is in very damaged blackened leather (see photos). It has three brass fittings and two rings on eyebolts. The yoke, which has a shell-shaped suspension button, is adorned with an anchor. The dart is decorated with a floral pattern with a shell on both sides.
In service on the eve of the First World War in the French Navy.
