    Description

    Original steel plate stipple engraving of the French Marshal under Napoleon.  The engraver was Browne after an illustration by W. M. Craig and published by T. Kinnersley April 20, 1815.  the engraving measures 8.5" x 10.5".
    Michel Ney  (1769-1815) 1st Duke of Elchigen, 1st Prince of the Moskova, popularly known as Marshal Ney, was a French military commander and Marshal of the Empire who fought in the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars. He was one of the original 18 Marshals of the Empire created by Napoleon. He was known as “Le Rougeaud” (red-faced) by his men and nicknamed le Brave des Braves (the Bravest of the Brave) by Napoleon.
    Overall find condition with the lightest of minor foxing in a few places.
