    As a young Spanish military officer in 1835 he joined the Second Regiment of the Royal Guard, participating in Spain’s First Carlist Civil War. For his heroic actions,
    under the command of the Comte de Clonard, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and won several decorations!

    ) was a lieutenant general and
    senator of the Kingdom
    of Spain.
    He entered as a cadet in the
    Army
    in 1829. In 1835 he joined the Second Regiment of the
    Royal Guard
    , participating in the
    First Carlist War
    , where he won several decorations.
    After this he joined the General Staff, usually devoting himself to administrative tasks ascending by seniority: In 1844 he was colonel, promoted to brigadier in 1847, field marshal in 1853 and lieutenant general in 1866. Before he had been minister of war interim in the absence of its owner from July 7 to 17, 1854, finally being general director of Infantry in 1875.
    In addition, within the Army he held the position of director of the military magazine, of which he was its founder, undersecretary in the Ministry of War, inspector of carabineros, captain general of several districts, president of the upper advisory board of war and director general of military engineers.

    proclaimed, he emigrated to
    France
    and obtained the restoration of his positions with the
    Restoration
    .
    He was appointed Senator for life in the Cortes of 1853. In 1879 he was granted the title of
    Marquis of San Román
    .
    Knight Grand Cross of the Royals and distinguished orders of San Hermenegildo, Carlos III, Isabel the Catholic, Christ of Portugal and San Luis de Parma, bibliophile and collector, bequeathed in 1888 to the
    Royal Academy of History
    his important library, with works by a diverse subject, especially of a military nature.
