Large French Second Empire Sapeur Axe Ax Dated 1852 VERY NICE

This very nice and impressively large French Regulation Sapeur's Axe dates from the French Napoleonic Second Empire Era and is dated 1852. It wears a hefty Axe Head that measures 11 inches across with a cutting edge of 4 3/4 inches. The Axe Head has developed a beautiful, rich aged patina and remains very securely in place. The large wooden shaft has survived in very healthy condition, still wearing most of its original black paint finish and is fitted with a brass pommel and brass butt cap.
