Medal for Prussian veterans who fought against Napoleon during the years 1813 to 1814. The medals were created from captured, melted-down, French cannons. Information confirming the fact was etched around its edges. The obverse displayed König Friedrich Wilhelm III’s royal cypher. He led Prussia through this very difficult time. [Under his auspices, the Iron Cross was created in two classes and awarded to enlisted men, NCO’s, and officers]. The medal’s reverse displays the years “1813” and “1814.” These are getting harder and harder to locate. No ribbon comes with this example.
