Description
French Model 1771 Infantry Musket Socket Bayonet.Appears completely unmarked
. It has an overall darkened patina, there are file marks throughout, light pitting with some minor surface rust, light nicks, tip is sharp, and looking at from the side it is straight but looking at it straight on it leans to the right. T
he shoulders and fuller are uneven. "I" mortise, missing the locking ring, and the muzzle opening is deformed. Length of the blade measures 13 1/2" (1" wide x 3/8" thick) and the bayonet is 17". The socket is 2 5/8". The muzzle hole is 13/16" (based on the front opening because the backend is deformed). Crudely made early socket bayonet.
