    Description

Early 1800's Prussian Officers Etched Sword. T
he ricasso is faintly marked with a beehive which stands for Samuel Hoppe and the side of the knuckle guard is marked "L Kolb". The grip appears to be ebony, it is loose because it has four full length crack lines, also has a few small chips. The unusual knuckle guard looks to be missing a branch on the opposite side because of a notch in the cross guard and the threaded screw holes but I haven't been able to find another sword like it to use as a comparison. The knuckle guard and pommel have some light surface rust scattered throughout. The knuckle guard is also loose. The etched blade has floral/leaf etchings (also a cannon and shield), an even dark patina, has not been sharpened, has a clip point tip, some nicks, it has a very slight bend about 3" up from the tip, and there is light pitting scattered throughout. Length of the blade measures 29 1/2" (1 1/16" wide x 1/4" thick), and the overall length of the sword is 35 3/16".
