Description
French Infantry Sabre Briquet with Leather Scabbard. The ricasso is marked "1835" and has an "L" inside a circle. On the backstrap by the pommel is "D" over "213", the topside near the quillon has an odd mark, there is an illegigle mark on one side of the knuckleguard, and the spine has what looks like "A Liege". The brass guard and blade are tight.
The pommel looks as if it was painted silver at some point (same for the scabbard throat and drag), the knuckleguard has some gold left on it, overall most of this has come off through the years. The blade
is straight, sharpened, no nicks,
and it has a few small age spots.
The uncommon style leather scabbard is solid, has crazing throughout, the stitching is tight, there are surface loss areas mainly on the edges, and there is a 13" slice from the tip to halfway up (the last 6" of that does have some leather missing)
. The drag is made of steel?, not typical for these sabers.
W
asher is intact. Length of the blade is 23 3/16" (1 5/16" wide and 1/4" thick), the sword is 28 1/8", and in the scabbard it is 29 1/4".
