Ca. 1830s to 1850s -- "F" Button or Insignia

Description

Really not sure what this is. It was found with Mexican buttons. It could be the face of a two-piece button or could have once been lead filled and part of horse tack or something else entirely. Truthfully, I'm not sure if it's Mexican, French, British, or American -- a case could be made for any of those! Measures 19 mm.
Found in Guanajuato, Mexico.
I'm currently culling items from my Texas Revolution era collection to make room for recent acquisitions. These are from my personal collection.
