1850’s Gutta Percha Daguerreotype Genuine Union Case PLUS A 2nd CASE!

You will receive two different cases, same size so case #2 can be used for spare parts or repaired.
Case #1 - is a rare 1850’s Gutta-Percha Daguerreotype photo case featuring a gilt representation of a New Orleans Mint ten dollar gold piece on both sides surrounded by floral ornamentation and a frame design. This piece boasts a paper insert reading GENUINE/ UNION CASE /IMPROVED/ FINE GILT AND BURNISHED / HINGE / S. PECK’S PATENT Oct. 3d, 1854 / H. HALVERSON’S PATENT Aug. 7th, 1855 / Assigned to S. Peck.
-Measures 3.75” tall x 3.50” wide
-One of the hinges needs to be reattached, the little nail is there but came out of the hinge. I tried but not having any small tools I cannot get it to snap back together.
-This case lacks the fabric liner on the left side of the case which is why I am including a second frame that can be used for parts if buyer so desires.
-Glass and gold matting are fine
-The outside gold trim that fits over the top of the glass and matting is missing the bottom section (see photos).
-There are a few small chips on some of the corners and one near the top hinge (see photos).
-Frame closes but does not latch in any way, not sure if this is normal or if there once was a catch to make it stay closed.
With all that being said, it’s overall a nice looking case for its age. If you can fix the hinge and use the fabric lining and gold trim from the second case it will be almost perfect.
Case #2 - is a covered wooden case. It is the same size as case #1. This case is in much rougher condition as it’s in two parts, not connected anymore. All of the parts are still in place (paper, gold mat, glass, gold trim and fabric lining). I also have an extra gold matting almost identical to the one in this frame that will be included. I do not know the age of this case.
